Assessment of the Sporting landscape of Trinidad and Tobago

Image
It was the 18 th  December 2015 when I had visited Hasley Crawford Stadium; I had been there for consultation with National governing bodies (NGBs).  At 10 AM a press conference was scheduled and I was there to address that press conference.  Since my appointment in September 2015, I was clear in my mind and completely determined to meet the executives of all the ministry’s stakeholders in youth and sport to determine their challenges and how the ministry could assist them in achieving the short and long term goals for participation, inclusion and podium success. After completion of 100 days of my office I had made a thorough assessment of the sporting landscape. This assessment brought many things in light on which we needed to work with specific focus on the Rio Olympics games. I had put forward my vision for the advancement of sports in Trinidad and Tobago during my office term. People from the press had been already invited to cover the press conferen...

My concern for healthy Trinidad and Tobago

Image
I had visited the National cricket academy in Couva to feel the pulse of the cricket administration of the country. I have ensured that players and staff members get the required medications and tests such as pre match medical and physical screening, full fitness examination, heart test, Lung function test, proper blood tests, cardiac lipid profile, cholesterol testing, kidney function, urine analysis and so on. Dr Navi Muradali, who was then the medical consultant for Healthnet Caribbean clinics, which was the new health collaborator of the Trinidad and Tobago cricket board (TTCB). Dr. Navi said that leaving few staffs and players with high level of cholesterol, all other players were in good health condition under the acceptable standers of the health criterion. Dr, Navi continued that the players and staffs were further suggested the ways and means to adopt for healthier lifestyle. Although this event was organized for Red Force players yet it was representi...

It was the month of November when I as a sports & youth affairs minister, toured the Brian Lara cricket academy of Tarouba. This day became more special, as I had been accompanied by legendary cricketer Brain Lara. The academy was UDeCOTT Managed. It was my utmost concern for the youth of Trinidad and Tobago that made him visit the place. I had been also accompanied by the chairman of the UDeCOTT Noel Garcia, executive of the UDeCOTT academy, president of Trinidad and Tobago cricket board, executives of the ministry of sports and youth affairs, officials of Sports Company of T&T and many other stakeholders in the field of cricket. Same time i, chairman of the UDeCOTT, Brian Lara, president of Trinidad and Tobago cricket board expressed grief over pining away of the of the academy in all these years. I as, Minister of sports and youth affairs stressed that this was the concern of past and he has a brilliant plan for the future of the cricket. I had further stressed...
