Darryl Smith’s concern for Sports

Darryl Smith Speaking at the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) inaugural Sports Marketing and Business of Sports Conference which was held at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad with the theme “Towards Economic Growth and Diversification–Trinidad &Tobago Sport Rising to the Challenge.” He said priority must be given to completion of projects those are already in progress.

There were already many projects those were yet to be completed. He was focusing on these projects.

He could have invited new projects and could have issued new tenders but he finds it better to focus on crumbling infrastructure and on completion of existing projects.

He further honestly and very clearly mentioned, that, “I am cool with passing through this five-year term and not building anything, finishing what we have, maintaining what we have and let the development fund pump into the young people of Trinidad & Tobago .”

He stressed on infrastructure development not by skipping existing projects but by completion of these projects. The behind this was the completion of these sports facilities to facilitate the youth of T&T as soon as possible. He cited the absence of data is becoming hindrance in developing a suitable plan for the youth of the country.

Darryl smith further said that he has been blown away when he met with the minister of education and the minister of culture to hear they also have sporting departments and sporting bodies doing the same thing we were doing and we had never met.

He worked on all these aspects and reformed things as per his strength. But the complexities within the sporting authority were not less. One has to face the brunt of the lax behavior of employees and authority even if one is situated at the top of the ladder.
